How to Choose Endress+Hauser Process Instruments: Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature and Analysis

At a Glance. Endress+Hauser (E+H) covers the full process instrumentation chain. The right instrument depends on what you measure: for flow — Coriolis (Promass F 100) for mass flow of any liquid, electromagnetic (Promag P 100) for conductive liquids; for level — radar (Micropilot FMR62) for non-contact, capacitive (Liquicap FMI51) for interface/sticky media; for pressure — Cerabar PMC51B; for temperature — iTHERM TM131; for analysis — Liquiline CM44. This guide maps each family to its application and gives a selection flow.

2. Decision Flow — Which E+H Instrument Do You Need?

  1. What are you measuring? → Flow, level, pressure, temperature or water quality.
  2. FLOW — do you need mass flow or volume flow?
Mass flow (kg/h, density, batching) → Coriolis Promass F 100. Volume flow of conductive liquid (S/m) → electromagnetic Promag P 100.
  3. LEVEL — non-contact or contact?
Non-contact clean liquid → radar Micropilot FMR62. Interface or sticky conductive → capacitive Liquicap FMI51. Open water budget → ultrasonic Prosonic FDU91.
  4. PRESSURE — absolute, gauge or level?
Process pressure → Cerabar PMC51B. Level via hydrostatic → Cerabar with flush diaphragm.
  5. TEMPERATURE — process or hygienic?
Both covered by iTHERM TM131 (select thermowell + transmitter).
  6. ANALYSIS — pH, conductivity, O2?
    Multi-parameter → Liquiline CM44 transmitter + matching sensor.

4. Quick FAQ

Q: Can Promag measure non-conductive fluids?
No. Electromagnetic flowmeters need conductivity > 5 µS/cm. For oil/gas/solvent, use Coriolis (Promass).

Q: Micropilot FMR62 — what frequency?
80 GHz, giving a narrow beam that works in small nozzles and tight vessels.

Q: Can Cerabar PMC51B measure level?
Yes — hydrostatic level is a standard Cerabar application, especially for pressurized tanks.

Q: Liquiline CM44 — how many parameters?
Up to 4 channels, mix and match pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity sensors.
