| Product Type | Accessories |
| Summary | Suitable for process nozzles from 4 ... 6" or DN 90 ... DN 175 |
| Applications | The WIKA refractory drilling system allows the required straight bore to be produced on the centre line of the process nozzle transition |
| Key Features | New installations should be equipped with an ASME 6" [DN 150] process nozzle Discuss existing process nozzles, e.g. 2 ... 4" [DN 50 ... DN 100], with an authorised WIKA engineer The WIKA refractory drilling system is supplied with the WIKA refractory brick stop Available for immediate dispatch |
| Description | The WIKA refractory drilling system and a suitable drill bit set are used to drill a straight, accurate centre-line bore through the refractory bricks and lining of the thermal stage reactor in a sulphur recovery unit (SRU) – Claus process. The drilling system is firmly mounted on the process nozzle. Drilling of the hole for the process-side primary protection tube (main protection tube) through the refractory lining must only start once the drill has been aligned concentrically with the nozzle centre line and remains on this centre line. Following this procedure produces a straight and accurate bore and ensures the correct fit of the main protection tube and the TC82/TC83 Calitum ® high-temperature thermocouple, enabling accurate temperature monitoring at the point required by the operator. Under the guidance of experienced personnel or a supervisor, a qualified installation procedure is performed to ensure correct alignment of the refractory bricks with the protection tube while the thermal reactor is in operation, compensating for the respective static behaviour of the TC82/TC83 Calitum ® high-temperature thermocouple. This technical innovation protects the thermocouple from damage and provides multiple safety barriers. Note: The mounting bore is precision-matched and of critical importance, therefore we strongly recommend that users do not drill automatically without using the WIKA refractory drilling system.
