DescriptionResistance thermometers without thermowell are particularly suitable for applications in which the metal stem is inserted directly into a hole (e.g. in machine parts) or directly into the process, provided the process does not contain chemically corrosive or abrasive media. If a thermowell is used, a spring must also be fitted, since the spring presses the tip of the stem reliably into the bottom of the thermowell. This ensures that the force applied to the sensing element does not exceed a critical value. Installation is usually directly into the process, although threaded fittings, union nuts and other fasteners can also be used for the connection. The flexible part of the stem is a mineral-insulated cable (MI cable). This cable has a stainless steel sheath. The inner conductors are tightly packed in a high-density insulating ceramic material. The measuring resistor is connected to the inner conductors at the measuring end of the MI cable. It is therefore suitable for use at high temperatures. Because the mineral-insulated resistance thermometer is flexible and can be made with a very small diameter, it can be used in places that are difficult to access. Apart from the sensing end and the tube seal at the connection cable, the MI cable can be bent to a minimum radius of three times the cable diameter. Please note: when the flow velocity of the measured medium is very high, the flexibility of the mineral-insulated probe must be taken into account. A WIKA analogue or digital transmitter can be optionally integrated into the terminal head of the TR10-H.
